Year 6 - St Chad’s Cathedral

Last week, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed a wonderful visit to St Chad’s Cathedral.

We were given a fascinating tour by our knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides, who helped us learn more about the history and significance of the cathedral. The children were especially interested to hear about St Chad, and it was a very special moment to be able to sit close to his holy relics.

During the visit, we also learned about Archbishop Bernard and studied his coat of arms, discovering more about the meaning behind the symbols. The children were also excited to learn about our parish patron, Saint John Henry Newman, and one lucky pupil even had the opportunity to follow in his footsteps by leading us in prayer from the very spot where he once spoke.

We then joined the congregation to pray The Angelus and took part in The Workers’ Mass. Our altar servers did a fantastic job serving so reverently, and two of our pupils respectfully carried the offertory gifts.

The day finished with lunch in the crypt and a visit to the piety stall, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.

The pupils were an absolute credit to the school, their families and themselves. They asked many thoughtful questions throughout the day to deepen their understanding of the cathedral’s importance both in the past and today. Our tour guides also commented several times on their impeccable behaviour, which made us incredibly proud.

We hope this visit has helped the children to further deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and the rich history and importance of the Mother Church of the Archdiocese.
